Beware of Falling Ladders

So I realize that I haven't posted here in a very long time, and today I have the perfect story, so I decided to post it.

So today I went to the church that I've been helping out at. I think it was my last day. I was taking some of the things down that didn't get taken down on Friday. There was two people there, me and the secretary. I was out in the hall, trying to get the ladder up.

It was a big ladder... about 15 feet I'm guessing. I wasn't sure if the youth leader would be in this week, and the minister is in England. So I decided to put the ladder up, and I managed to get it up, and maneuvered to the right spot. I managed to take down half of the sign.

Then I had to move the ladder...

I moved the ladder around, and managed perfectly well. I got the other half of the sign down, and dropped it on the ground. Then I climbed down the ladder and went to fold it up and bring it down... Only I kind of dropped it. Luckily, it didn't make too much noise on the hardwood floor. There was something to break its fall.

That something was my head and my shoulders. (My knees and toes were safe.)

My first reaction was "wow, I can't believe I'm still conscious." My head is sore, but it's fine. There will be a bump there for a while. My shoulder's been fine, but it's back to the original pain. I have a chiropractor appointment tomorrow.

The funny thing was, I didn't tell anyone at the church what happened, cause I felt like such a moron. I just saw what needed to be done, and wanted to get it done, without having to wait for someone else to come help me. Stupid stupid stupid.

So folks, don't drop ladders on your head. It hurts.

Snow Day

Gray mentioned how controversial the snow day was... here's a picture of the snow from my backyard to give you an idea of how "bad" it was.

Wow... it's 2007!

So it's been a while since I've posted here. I'm having a wonderful time right now, as a student teacher at a school down the street. The teachers I'm working with are excellent, and it is a really wonderful school. I love the kids, and I love teaching. It's all very exciting for me, and I now feel more confident than ever, that this is where I want to be.

I finished my first week (although the first day of the week didn't really count, cause we had a snow day.) And I'm glad that I have a few days to recover, but I'm still really looking forward to getting back on Monday.

It turns out that I got a D in the exam that I wasn't feeling too good about. It means that it can't count towards my major, but it can still count as an elective, so I'm still on track to graduate at the end of the spring. I'm taking a Psych class on Thursday nights this semester, and then in the spring, I need to take a course on Guidance and Counselling, as well as two lower level electives. It all feels within reach now!

Christmas lights, Christmas concerts and no more exams!

I went Christmas light viewing with a few friends the other day, and while we didn't see anything like this, I did want to share this picture. How on earth does all that fit on that roof?

Now for something completely different... I'm on edge. The kids at the school are performing for the Christmas concert tomorrow morning, and I'm leading them. The kids aren't catching on very quickly. Well, at least tomorrow, it will be all over... no more Christmas concert to worry about, and I wrote my last exam this afternoon, so I don't have to worry about that anymore. Thursday is my last day at the school, and then I will be without a job until May at the earliest.... so weird to think that way.

Anyway, Thomas the Tank Engine wishes all of you a Merry Christmas! (Cause there's nothing more Christmasy than a blue train.)

The Science of Christmas Shopping

So I was talking with a friend today about shopping for Christmas presents. She said it was an art, I say it's a science. I did all my shopping online this year, but for those of you who aren't quite done, here's the science of Christmas shopping all summed up in 8 little steps!

1. You decide what you want to get

2. You decide what store you can get that at

3. You decide what aisle it will be in

4. You plan your route, and select the nearest possible legal parking spot

5. You go in at a speed-walking pace so people get out of your way

6. You grab the item

7. You look for the checkout that has the least amount of people... if it is walmart, it doesn't matter which checkout you pick, because the cashier has to call a supervisor for every freaking item anyway, so you might as well just leave without the item.... you obviously screwed up with step 2...

8. You go to the checkout, pay, and walk out at your same speed-walking pace, and leave, content that you have one less present to purchase

And there you have it, the science of Christmas shopping.

5 Down, 1 to go!

So I wrote my biggest exam today. Man it was a killer. I think I may have overstudied. I'm not feeling confident that I did well at all on this exam.

But I have decided not to worry, because what's done is done. I'll just end up taking 2 courses in the spring, and 2 courses in the summer, if necessary, instead of the 2 in spring and 1 in summer (or vice versa). My last exam is on Monday afternoon, and I'm feeling pretty good about that. I got an 88% on the midterm, and so I think that everything will be good.

I'm also working on getting kids ready for the Christmas concert at the school I work at. I have two days to get them ready, and I'm feeling the pressure, but I'm really excited. I think that they'll do fine once they get on stage... (right Jen?) All this reminds me, I only have one more week of the After School Program before Christmas break, and then moving on to student teaching... Hard to believe it's been a year there! It has just flown by!

Wrong on so many levels...

So I was surfing the web today, and came across this article. It seems the Left Behind series has evolved into a video game which requires you to be a Christian after the apocalypse and either convert or kill non-Christians.

It's sick if you ask me.
